COACH Egay Macaraya lauded the San Sebastian for the sizzling shooting display as he deflected credit for the Stags’ season-high 16 triples in a rout of the Letran Knights in the NCAA basketball tournament.

"I guess they're improving a lot. Bigyan naman natin ng credit ang mga bata, dahil hindi naman talaga sa akin 'yan. Sa practice nila 'yan eh," said Macaraya.

The Stags improved three point shooting has been attributed to Egay Macaraya, known as a deadly shooter in his time, but he says it’s simply the result of the players’ hard work.

The Stags moved past the Knights, to gain a share of third place with Jose Rizal University at 7-6.

"They practice hard, nag-extra effort sila na mag-shooting every day, so I guess 'yun talaga ang tamang gagawin," he added.

Finally, Macaraya is seeing the team that he envisioned at the start of the season and after seeing 10 of his players make at least one three pointer, he believes that their hard work is finally paying off.

"Well, 'yung team naman, ganito talaga 'yung buhay namin, we die, we win with the three-points," Macaraya continued.

"Good thing right now, pumapasok naman, hindi naman lahat, but at 42% sa three-points, masyadong mataas sa amin 'yan."

Another key for Macaraya has been how they've grown tighter as a unit as the season passes.

It was most evident in their assist number as they had 23 dimes to 32 field goal attempts to keep the Letran defense disoriented in the onslaught.

"Mula noong after ng first round, we talked about togetherness, and I think this is the result," said Macaraya.

"After that one, nag-uusap kami na we will stick together, we will be sharing the ball all the time, and kung sino 'yung open, take the shot. I guess this is the reason why."
