Bright Akhuetie shines as Perpetual Help arrests two-game slide with win over struggling Arellano

BRIGHT Akhuetie scored 16 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter as Perpetual Help defeated Arellano, 76-66, on Thursday in the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Akhuetie led a 12-5 closeout for the Altas, who snapped a two-game skid and improved their record to 5-2.

Scottie Thompson had 11 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists while Gabriel Dagangon also scored 11 markers for Perpetual Help, which saw the Arellano game as a must-win.

“Pag matalo pa kami, pang-lima na kami. Sabi ko at least nasa top four tayo, kailangan naming manalo sa Arellano,” said Perpetual Help coach Aric del Rosario.

Perpetual Help was clinging to a 64-61 lead with 4:42 left in the game when the Altas made the big run to end the game with Akhuetie scoring 10 in the final stretch.

Jiovani Jalalon had 14 points for the Chiefs but went scoreless in the fourth quarter. Allan Enriquez had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Arellano, which lost for the second straight time.

Arellano joined JRU in fourth spot with a 4-3 win-loss record.
