Bright Akhuetie comes up clutch as Perpetual Help Altas overcome JRU Bombers in overtime

BRIGHT Akhuetie scored 10 of his game-high 31 points in overtime as Perpetual Help beat Jose Rizal University, 86-83, on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Scottie Thompson had his third triple-double of the season, registering 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 17 assists for the Altas, who capped the first round with third straight win for a 7-2 win-loss slate.

The Altas played steadier in extra minutes after Heavy Bomber Dave Sanchez hit a triple with 1.2 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

JRU scored the first five points of the extra period, but the Altas’ Nigerian import was unstoppable down low, hitting the Altas’ next 10 points in the extra period.

“Ngayon lang kami nanalo sa JRU mula Filoil,” said Perpetual Help coach Aric Del Rosario. “Mahirap kalaban ang JRU na maraming shooter.

Tey Teodoro had 28 points, including 13 in the third period for JRU, which dropped to 5-4.
