ONE Championship heavyweight champion Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera lent a hand in the Slam Dunk Contest not just as one of the judges of the throwdown event, but also as a willing prop to eventual champ Yankee Haruna.

Vera quickly accepted the offer to take part as judge of the dunkfest as he admitted to be a basketball fan as well.

“Bakit ako nandito sa NCAA? I love basketball, slam dunks,” Vera said. “They asked me if I could judge the Slam Dunk, and I said yes pasok agad ako.”

Aside from judging in the dunk contest, Vera had a more personal role as well in the dunk extravaganza as Haruna asked the mixed martial arts fighter to stand in the paint.

Haruna was successful in his dunk as he leaped over Vera to throw a two-hand dunk, which proved to be the contest-winning slam. Haruna scored 49 with Vera giving the dunk a 10.

Vera bared that it wasn't just a surprise decision as Haruna had already approached him before the competition began, and he was more than willing to support the young high-leaper.

“Before the contest, he asked me if I could be part of his dunk. How could I not cheer him on? Ayun nga second round, naging part pa ako,” he said laughing.
