JOSE Rizal University's Abdoul Poutouochi finally had a breakout game on Tuesday against erstwhile unbeaten San Beda, but Heavy Bombers coach Vergel Meneses remained hardly pleased with his Cameroonian import.

Poutouochi scored 14 points and collared 12 rebounds as the Heavy Bombers scored a huge 79-73 victory over the Red Lions to end the first round on a high note with a 4-5 win-loss slate.

Meneses has been very frank about his dismay over the play of Poutouochi this season despite the player averaging 7.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. His statement after the win against San Beda didn’t change.

“Kulang pa eh, mahirap ako ma-satisfy,” Meneses said.

Meneses, however, said Poutouochi can still bring a lot to the table, more so after seeing the Cameroonian hold his own against PBA pros from Mahindra in an exhibition game.

“Alam ko kasi ‘yung capacity niya. Alam ko ‘yung galing nila. Kaya I keep on yelling to them kasi alam ko ‘yung kakayahan nila. Kasi nakita ko siya naglaro against Mahindra and he dominated everybody there. It will be easy for him sa NCAA kasi he played against a professional team,” said Meneses.

The 22-year-old Poutouochi said he has no problem with Meneses’ opinion.

“Coach is right because I didn’t bring what I should bring to my teammates and with my team. I always find myself in foul trouble, and it is having a huge impact on the result of the game. Now, I find a way to defend clearly. I’m feeling okay now,” said Poutouochi.

The Cameroonian center vowed to play better as the second round comes.

“From now, until the rest of the tournament, you are going to see a different Abdel for sure,” said Poutouochi.
