LETRAN bucked a fiery start from San Sebastian before pulling away in the second half to take its first win in the NCAA Season 94 with an 83-74 victory on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
The veterans of coach Jeff Napa came to play in the second half as the trio of JP Calvo, Bong Quinto and Jerrick Balanza took turns in blasting the Stags to bounce back after a stunning 78-75 loss to the Perpetual Altas in the opener.
Calvo particularly was on fire in the fourth quarter, firing in seven points early in that stretch to give the Knights a 73-57 lead with 4:04 left in the game as they cruised to a comfortable victory and improve to 1-1.
“At least the boys nakapag-settle down na. At least na address namin mga mistakes namin nung first game. Happy ako sa mga leaders namin, nadala nila yung team,” said Letran head coach Jeff Napa.
“Yun lang naman yun. It’s a matter of involving yung other teammates nila,” he added. “It’s a matter of how we execute in the endgame. Nag-stick kami sa game plan.”
Quinto led the Knights with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, Calvo added 16 points while Balanza finished with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Allyn Bulanadi paced the Stags with 21 points and three steals as RK Ilagan finished with 18 points and four assists for San Sebastian which dropped to 1-2 in the tournament.
