ARELLANO University turned to Basti Valencia and T-Mc Ongotan down the stretch as it secured its second straight win to open its NCAA Season 102 campaign after a thrilling 91-87 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College on Tuesday at the Filoil Center in San Juan.
Valencia hit the go-ahead three with 46 seconds remaining to give the Chiefs an 88-87, before EAC's Jude Bagay missed the response on the other end as he tried to push the Generals back on top.
Ongotan then put the icing on the cake, breaking down the Generals' defense and scoring on a tough floater as the Chiefs improved to 2-0 for the tournament.
"Ang sabi ko sa kanila, pag pinasa ni T-Mc kay Basti Valencia, kailangan mag deliver siya. Full of trust naman na pinapractice nila talaga yan," Arellano coach Chico Manabat said.
"Alam niyo naman yung dalawa parang Batman and Robin sila, sila yung players ko pa from last year so sa mga ganitong end-game, ito yung pinapractice namin talaga e, finishing ng game."
Fresh off a 23-point night in his Season 102 debut, Ongotan continued his rampage for the Chiefs as he dropped 26 points, five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block in another all-around performance for Arellano.
King Vinoya finished with 15 points and four rebounds as Valencia finished with 14 points, six rebounds and two steals.
It was a tough loss for the now 0-2 Generals who saw five players breache the double digit mark, led by Bagay who finished with 16 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Kyle Ochavo added 15, MJ Raymundo and Jacob Shanoda chipped in 14 apiece while Joseph Nunag added 12 points and nine rebounds.
