THERE won't be any bubble setup for the NCAA this 96th season, although the collegiate league is still looking to stage basketball skills competitions.
NCAA Management Committee (Mancom) chairman Fr. Vic Calvo of host Letran ruled out the possibility of staging a bubble for both the basketball and volleyball competitions for the upcoming collegiate calendar.
"There was a proposal, but like any other leagues, we've done risks and cost analysis and we decided that it was very risky and very costly. So we will not push for it," he told the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday.
The COVID-19 pandemic is preventing the NCAA to hold traditional events, although Calvo said that it's all systems go for the league in the first week of May.
The NCAA is looking to hold "skills-based" events in lieu of the traditional five-a-side game.
"Hybrid lang muna kami. Bawal pa yung five-on-five eh," Calvo said.
Among the events discussed are the skills challenge, three-point shootout, and slam dunk contest, usually held during the All-Star festivities.
Calvo did note that all 10 member-schools were on board with the plan as the NCAA are on the final stages of planning for this abbreviated "special season."
