FOR Jose Rizal University coach Vergel Meneses, Teytey Teodoro is a cut above the rest as far as collegiate basketball guards are concerned.
He is so good, Meneses said, that the veteran JRU guard is close to unstoppable.
"Dalawa lang naman makaka-stop sa kanya eh. Siya at ako," said Meneses, drawing laughs from reporters.
"Kung hindi ko siya pinasok, eh di na-stop ko siya. Kung ayaw niya maglaro, eh di na-stop niya 'yung sarili niya," he added.
The 23-year-old Teodoro once again showed why Meneses sings his praises as he finished with 23 points in the Heavy Bombers' 67-56 win over Adamson that put the team in the semifinal round of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
Teodoro also shut down Adamson's comeback bid late in the game when he connected on a triple with two minutes to play in the match for a 62-54 lead.
Despite his scoring performance, Teodoro actually shot only 7-of-22, with his five triples salvaging what was actually a poor shooting display.
"Nahirapan siya sa sarili niya. Nai-stop niya sarili niya. Para sa akin, nobody can stop him as long as he will play. Nobody can stop him," said Meneses.
Going forward, the challenge for Teodoro, Meneses said, is to play consistent basketball once the NCAA season goes in full swing.
"Wherever he goes, 'yun ang pupuntahan ng JRU. I'm not putting pressure on him but dapat i-accept niya 'yun," said Meneses.
