TEY Teodoro had an answer to every attempt of a College of St. Benilde uprising as Jose Rizal University held firmly onto third place in the NCAA Season 93 with a 90-77 win on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Teodoro scored nine points in the fourth quarter, quashing every attempt of the Blazers to spark a comeback.
Back to back baskets by the bulky guard and a nifty pass to Abdulrazak Abdulwahab gave the Heavy Bombers an 84-68 lead with 3:42 to go.
The win allowed the Heavy Bombers to move to 9-6, a full game ahead of fourth-running Letran at 8-7.
"Yung panalo namin ngayon, medyo gumanda for us na nasisilip na namin siguro, but we’re hoping to win against San Sebastian pa rin," said JRU coach Vergel Meneses.
"They tend to relax pagdating sa depensa. Di pwedeng mangyari sa NCAA yun. any team can comeback from any deficit. Sa malaking lamang. kahit sino kayang bumalik," he added.
Jed Mendoza paced the Heavy Bombers with 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting as Teodoro finished with 16 points.
Ervin Grospe continued his excellent playmaking from the post with a game high six assists on top of 14 points as Abdulwahab added a double double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Heavy Bombers which finished with a 58 percent shooting clip.
Clement Leutcheu led the Blazers with 25 points and 10 rebounds as they fell to 3-12 for the season.
