BONNIE Tan clarified that he's not out of Letran yet even after talks of him assuming the lead in NorthPort continues to heat up.

Bonnie Tan on Letran future

"Ako pa rin ang nagpapatakbo sa Letran. Sa totoo nga, may mga inaayos pa tayo para sa team para maging handa tayo sa susunod na season," he said on Friday.

Tan is reported to handle the Batang Pier as the interim head coach come the PBA Governors' Cup.

But he was quick to allay fears and said that everything remains as is when it comes to him and Letran.

Tan has been a champion for the entirety of his tenure in Muralla.

Since taking over from Jeff Napa in 2019, he steered the Knights to a three-peat including their recent NCAA Season 98 seniors basketball conquest.

Aside from that, the soft-spoken mentor has been active in the pro league as a part of the NorthPort franchise since 2014. He assumed the role of the team manager in 2015 from BJ Manalo.

Tan didn't deny that he is being looked at to assume the head coaching role for the Batang Pier in a move that will see him and Pido Jarencio swap places.

But for now, nothing is final.

"May mga usapan pero wala pang final. Nagtatrabaho pa rin tayo sa pareho dahil may responsibilidad tayo sa NorthPort at Letran," said Tan, who shared that the group is still accommodating victory parties staged by alumni and are preparing for their trip to Japan as a reward for Letran's latest championship.

He did acknowledge that assistant coach Rensy Bajar has long been groomed to assume his post in the event that he leaves Letran, one that will happen once his appointment as NorthPort head coach becomes official as the PBA requires its head coaches to be exclusive to the pro league.

Yet as of now, it's still status quo for him.

"May contract pa tayo sa Letran at ino-honor natin yun," Tan said. "Hindi tumitigil ang trabaho para sa atin kasi alam natin lahat ng teams sa NCAA, gusto tayong talunin dahil tayo yung champion."
