EARLY contenders clash on Friday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan when unbeaten St. Benilde takes its biggest test yet when it faces off against last year's runner-up Lyceum.
The Blazers have gained the most of the recent postponement of games, allowing Justin Gutang to work his way back to form after suffering a sprained left MCL and a bruised right calf.
And that worked to St. Benilde's benefit, as seen in its 82-77 win over Arellano on Tuesday to stretch its winning start to 5-0.
But the Pirates are a different beast altogether, making the 4 p.m. tiff an early yet potential Final Four preview.
Lyceum also has a winning run to protect, stringing four straight victories to hold a 5-1 card.
Twins Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino and Mike Nzeusseu took center stage for the Pirates in their nail-biting 87-85 win over Perpetual back in August 8.
San Beda, meanwhile, also guns for its sixth straight W when it faces off against the skidding Perpetual (2-4) at 12 p.m.
Mapua (2-5), on the other hand, has its eyes set on a three-game win streak against Jose Rizal University (3-4) at 2 p.m.
