LOUIE Gonzalez is strongly being considered for the head coaching job at Jose Rizal University, sources told SPIN.ph.

Sources said the former La Salle coach is one of the candidates for the JRU position left vacant after Vergel Meneses stepped down late last year to run for the mayor's post in Bulacan, Bulacan.

Gonzalez coached the Green Archers in UAAP Season 81, but was replaced by Jermaine Byrd during the offseason after La Salle lost to Far Eastern University in a playoff for the final place in the Final Four.

He was also an assistant coach to Aldin Ayo during the Green Archers' title run in Season 79.

Meneses, a former JRU star, coached the Bombers for nine seasons and went down as the school's longest-tenured coach in the NCAA.
