Sidney Onwubere regains form as CJ Perez returns among weekly standouts in NCAA Season 93

    Aug 28, 2017
CJ Perez and Sidney Onwubere continued their stellar showing in NCAA Season 93 after ending the first round with impressive performances.

SIDNEY Onwubere broke out of a slump in a big way and ruled the week's top performers in the NCAA Season 93 as CJ Perez also makes his return following a surprising exclusion last week.

A new face also emerged in the form of Arellano guard Levi dela Cruz whose clutch play put him in the spotlight as the Chiefs ended their slide.

Here are the top performers for the week.

    Sidney Onwubere

Quiet for Emilio Aguinaldo College’s three game losing skid, Onwubere made sure that the Generals entered the second round on a high note after leading a 61-57 grindout win over the Perpetual Altas.

Onwubere finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and a block after playing nearly 40 minutes of action in the win.

Despite being visibly winded in the end, Onwubere was able to knock down four crucial free throws to seal the win.

Almost a staple in the weekly list, Perez was left out of the NCAA standouts last week.

But Perez marked his return to the rankings just when Lyceum completed its first round sweep with a 97-74 win over Mapua.

The returning wingman wasted little time in putting the Cardinals away after scoring 16 of his 18 points in the first half.

Perez added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to highlight his all-around play in the rout.

    Levi Dela Cruz

Dela Cruz burst into the scene in Arellano University's 87-81 win over St. Benilde.

The seldom used guard finished with a career-best 24 points, with 12 coming in the fourth quarter to finish the Chiefs' comeback from 16 points down.

Kent Salado may have found himself the perfect running partner as the former University of Santo Tomas reserve pool player also added four assists, three rebounds and a block for good measure in his breakout game.

More importantly, he led the Chiefs in ending their four-game slide as they improved to 3-5.

    Tey Teodoro

Teodoro finally broke out of his quiet spell, proving that he's still as clutch as it gets after leading Jose Rizal University to a 73-62 win over San Sebastian.

The high scoring guard fired 19 points spiked by four three pointers as the Heavy Bombers took their third straight win and improve to 5-3.

Two of those three pointers sparked a 15-4 run which took the fight out of the home team for good.

    Prince Eze

The only player here from a losing team last week, Eze continues to prove why he's easily the most dominant center in the league.

The towering Nigerian once again posted a 20 rebound game to go along four blocks and 14 points in their 57-61 loss to the Generals.

He might not be as celebrated as Bright Akhuetie before but Eze is proving that he is capable of puttiing up big numbers on a consistent basis.
