WHEN talking about the top individual performers of NCAA Season 93, Emilio Aguinaldo College's Sidney Onwubere often gets lost in the discussion.

But with the way the hardworking forward has played after five games, that may soon change.

As the Generals continue to rise up the standings, so does Onwubere's stock as one of the best individual performers as he has turned himself into a multi-faceted offensive weapon to go along with the usual tenacity that he brings on defense.

For the season, Onwubere is averaging 16 points per game, fifth best in the league, to go along 11.6 rebounds, which is only second behind Perpetual's Prince Eze.

His string of stellar outings has put him into the early discussions for the MVP award, which is getting crowded as the season rolls on.

But as the Generals moved to the third spot after winning its third game in five tries, the 6-foot-4 forward insists that individual recognition is not on his mind right now.

"Bonus na lang yun," said Onwubere who won numerous awards when he was playing for EAC-ICA in high school.

"Ang habol ko talaga maka-Final Four. Nung high school naman marami na akong nakuhang award. Di ko pa nararanasan ang mag-Final Four," he added.

What changed in Onwubere is how he has turned himself into a threat from beyond the arc, as he ranks fourth in three point shots made with 10 for the season, only behind well-established sharp shooters in JRU's Tey Teodoro and the San Beda pair of AC Soberano and Clint Doliguez.

That new found confidence stemmed from getting the green light from his coaches to shoot and hours of hardwork in the gym.

"Masaya lang ako na pinapatira ako nila coach," Onwubere continued.

"Sinasabi lang nila na pag libre ako, itira ko lang kasi pinaghirapan ko naman yan at pinagpractisan."

If Onwubere continues this kind of mentality, that semis dream might not be that far-fetched after all.
