SAN Sebastian denied a late rally from Arellano to pull off the 85-79 conquest and extend its winning run to four to finish the first round of the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament Friday at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.
Allyn Bulanadi fired 22 points on a 5-of-10 shooting from deep, while also grabbing seven rebounds and two steals for the Golden Stags.
JM Calma also did his damage with 17 points, 10 boards, and three assists, while RK Ilagan had 12 points and four dimes in the win.
San Sebastian, however, lost hold of a 13-point fourth quarter lead, 73-60, as Justin Arana and Kai Oliva got Arellano within one, 79-78, with 1:45 to play.
Calma scored on a drive on the other end to restore a three-point lead for the Golden Stags, before Arana split his charities but got the offensive board. Gelo Sablan, however, would botch his potential go-ahead trey, opening the door for Bulanadi and Alex Desoyo to seal the deal at the free throw line.
"Everybody contributes and they know their roles," said coach Egay Macaraya.
San Sebastian hiked its record to 6-3 to force a four-way logjam at second place.
The win, however, was costly for the golden Stags as Arjan dela Cruz hurt his left knee late in the third quarter.
Arellano, meanwhile, dropped to 2-7 and leaned on Arana, who notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Kent Salado also got 13 points, six assists, and four boards, while Dariel Bayla got 12 in the loss.
