SAN Sebastian used a huge third quarter to finally break out of its slump in the NCAA Season 94, dealing Mapua a 94-70 beatdown on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Alvin Capobres was at the forefront of the Stags attack in that second half while Alex Desoyo became the unlikely spark for coach Egay Macaraya as they recovered from back to back defeats to improve to 3-4.
The win was a much-needed victory for the Stags who are in danger of forfeiting their first two wins where RK Ilagan played in.
Ilagan is currently under investigation for playing in a 'ligang labas' and the league is expected to hand out the decision on Tuesday.
“Dalawang game very tough loss. Hirap na hirap kami. Buti ngayon nagrespond ang mga bata even if ang sakit ng pagkatalo namin,” said San Sebastian head coach Egay Macaraya.
“With all the distraction na nangyayari kay RK, maganda ang character na pinakita nila ngayon. I’m very proud of them. Hopefully magtuloy tuloy na.”
Capobres finished with a career-best 21 points to go along four assists as Allyn Bulanadi added 14 points, six boards and five assists in the win which Macaraya described as ‘their best performance yet.’
Desoyo scored all of his 12 points in the second half, JM Calma added 11 points and nine boards while four others scored at least seven points to highlight San Sebastian’s balanced attack.
Cedric Pelayo led the Cardinals with 15 points as Laurenz Victoria added 13 for the now 2-4 Mapua.
