SAN Beda woke up in the fourth quarter to whip San Sebastian, 73-59, to extend its unbeaten run to four Friday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Calvin Oftana was the calming force the Red Lions needed, scoring eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter as he flirted with a triple-double with his 10 rebounds and seven assists.
His undergoal stab triggered the killer 12-0 run that ended in a 22-4 assault, turning a 50-48 deficit to a decisive 70-54 advantage capped off by a booming three-pointer from Evan Nelle with 1:12 left.
"We were really excited playing against Baste. We know that they are a strong team and we know that a win will bring a lot of confidence to our boys," said coach Boyet Fernandez as San Beda limited San Sebastian to just 24 points in the second half.
Nelle braved through a sprained ankle and collected 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists to remain solid at the point.
Backcourt partner James Canlas also chipped in 14 points, three boards, and three dimes, as Donald Tankoua grabbed 14 points, five rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block in the victory.
It was the second straight defeat for San Sebastian as it fell to 2-2 in the standings.
Allyn Bulanadi carried the Golden Stags with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals, Alvin Capobres chimed in 13 points, five boards, and two dimes, and Arjan Dela Cruz had his season-best 12 points and two rebounds.
High-octane RK Ilagan struggled once again as he shot 1-of-8 from the field to be limited to just three points after going scoreless in San Sebastian's last game against Lyceum.
