SAN BEDA bounced back quick as it vented its ire on College of St. Benilde, 76-52, to get back to its winning ways in the NCAA Season 93 on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center.

Fresh off a shock defeat to Lyceum last Friday, the Red Lions were quick to lick their wounds and focus on the task at hand as they earned their second win in the season after three games.

After a tight first quarter, the defending champions limited the Blazers to just nine points in the second quarter to open a 37-24 lead at the break - a lead they padded to up to 29, 76-47, late in the fourth to cruise to a comfortable victory.

“We started really flat in the first quarter, probably because the guys were excited to bounce back. We really had a bad start but our defense stepped up in the second quarter,” said San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez.

“We can really see the character of these boys. They try to bounce back every time they fall down. I really credit my players for this. They simply stepped up their game today,” he added.

After giving up 96 points to the Pirates, the Red Lions focused on defense this time around, putting the cuffs on their foes, something that they failed to do against Lyceum.

They limited the Blazers to just 34 percent shooting as Benilde made just 19 of their 55 attempts from the field. They also forced the Blazers to 26 turnovers which they turned to 21 turnover points.

JV Mocon led the Red Lions with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Robert Bolick filled the stat sheet with nine points, 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals.

It was a balanced effort for the Red Lions with six other players notching at least six points apiece.

Clement Leutcheu was the only Blazer in double digits as he finished with 10 points as they dropped their second game in a row after winning their match via technicality against Perpetual Help.
