SAN Beda continued its dominant run and was hardly challenged in taking its fourth straight win in the NCAA Season 101 after blasting San Sebastian, 62-50, on Sunday at the Playtime Filoil Center in San Juan.
Behind Janti Miller and Jomel Puno, the Red Lions opened a 23-point spread in the first half, a lead they never relinquished to improve to 6-1 for the tournament and create a two-game separation from their closest Group B pursuers in St. Benilde and Letran, who are tied for second and third with 4-3 records.
Miller picked up from where he left off in the fourth, scoring ten in that stretch, just enough to fend off the Stags who went within eight early in the fourth the closest they were since trailing by double digits.
Miller finished with 24 points and six rebounds while Puno had his best game this season after grabbing 17 boards to go along his 10 points, three assists, a steal and a block for the Red Lions.
The Red Lions now gear up for their final cross-bracket clash of the season, fittingly against Group A leader Perpetual Help (7-1) this Wednesday.
Jhuniel dela Rema led the Stags with another double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while fellow rookie Ian Cuajao added 10 but it wasn't enough to salvage the game for the skidding San Sebastian who fell to 1-7.
