SAN Beda gave its head coach Boyet Fernandez a huge belated birthday gift as it ran through Emilio Aguinaldo College, 61-46, to remain unbeaten in the NCAA Season 94 on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The defending champions locked down the Generals on defense, as they delivered win number three in as many games to Fernandez who celebrated his 47th birthday on Monday.
The win also continued the Red Lions' mastery over the Generals, as San Beda won its 19th straight over EAC since the school joined the league in 2009.
"The boys really stepped up today. Hopefully we can carry this win in our next game," said Fernandez.
Facing a team that once scored 39 points in the third quarter, the Red Lions shackled the Generals and limited them to just eight points to break the game wide open.
The San Beda defense was so good they won by a comfortable margin despite shooting just 34 percent from the field and missing 12 of their 23 attempts from the charity stripe.
"We know that EAC is a good third quarter team and we limited them to eight points. It’s our defense that really made a difference tonight," Fernandez added.
Robert Bolick led the Red Lions on offense as he finished with 15 points and six assists.
Donald Tankoua added nine points and 10 rebounds as James Canlas chipped in eight.
Rustan Bugarin was the only bright spot for the Generals who dropped to 0-4 as he finished with 10 points and 10 boards.
Hamadou Laminou was limited to just nine points and two rebounds after coming into the match with averages of 20 points and 12 boards.
