    San Beda, Letran clash as NCAA basketball action resumes

    THE oldest rivalry in Philippine collegiate basketball take center stage on Saturday as San Beda and Letran clash in the NCAA Season 95 at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.

    Rains have affected both teams' progress and with the action finally coming back, it's expected to be a gritty faceoff between two title contenders at 2 p.m.

    The Red Lions have gone unbeaten through four games, but have not seen action since July 26 when they routed the San Sebastian Stags.


    Dealt with the same fate are the Knights, who though are regarded as the hottest team in the league with their five straight wins after losing their opening day assignment against Lyceum, have not played since July 30 when they defeated Mapua.

    Now, both sides are raring to get back on the court.

    San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez will lean on his fierce backcourt combo of James Canlas and Evan Nelle, as well as steady Cameroonian big man Donald Tankoua and versatile forward Calvin Oftana.


    Letran mentor Bonnie Tan looks to counter with top gun Jerrick Balanza, bruising center Larry Muyang, and this season's revelations Bonbon Batiller and Renato Ular.

    The NCAA will hand a P100,000 donation to the earthquake-hit province of Batanes through governor Marilou Cayco at halftime of the Red Lions-Knights game.

    Hosts Arellano (1-4) and winless Mapua (0-5) will cap off the busy gameday at 4 p.m.
