FOR helping keep San Beda get past San Sebastian and keep the Red Lions’ record unblemished, Calvin Oftana has been named Chooks-to-Go Collegiate Press Corps NCAA Player of the Week.
The veteran forward stood out in a 73-59 rout of San Sebastian on Friday, delivering 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. He scored scoring eight points, including two triples, in the final period.
The 6-foot-5 Oftana won the vote over Lyceum’s Renzo Navarro, Letran's Ato Ular, CSB’s Jimboy Pasturan, and Arellano's Kent Salado for the weekly award handed out by scribes covering the beat from print and online.

“Calvin made his shots in the fourth. He had been missing that in the first quarters, but I told them if they’re open, they should take it," said Red Lions coach Boyet Fernandez.
"I’m happy with the way he played and hopefully, maging consistent pa lalo si Calvin."
Oftana said he is determined to fill the void left by Javee Mocon.
"Sobrang mahirap, pero dinodoble ko yung effort ko para mag-improve," said Oftana. "Para may ipakita naman ako this season."
