EVAN Nelle made sure that San Beda sustained its unbeaten run, downing San Sebastian, 91-76, in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament on Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The sophomore guard unloaded nine of his 11 points in the fourth quarter, and finished with seven assists and five rebounds to help the Red Lions extend their winning streak to 25 straight games dating back to last season.
Nelle's brilliance allowed San Beda to keep San Sebastian at bay as it failed to break through the nine-point barrier numerous times in the fourth quarter.
James Canlas paced the Red Lions with 20 points on 4-of-6 shooting from deep, to go with five assists, and four rebounds, while Donald Tankoua tallied 18 points and seven boards.
Calvin Oftana also did his part with an all-around performance of 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block, while AC Soberano had 14 points and two boards as San Beda seized control of the match, 35-17, early in the second period.
"I salute the players for this. We were having problems in the first three games in the second round but I'm happy how they responded. They showed what they are capable of," said coach Boyet Fernandez.
RK Ilagan led the Golden Stags with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Allyn Bulanadi added 14 points, five assists, two rebounds and two blocks, while Rommel Calahat churned out a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards for San Sebastian, which fell to 7-5 in the standings.
