ROME dela Rosa proved to be the biggest addition for San Beda as it ruled the Shooting Stars competition in the 2018 NCAA All-Star on Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Stepping in for Jake Pascual, the Magnolia forward was the boost the Red Lions needed, joining Calvin Oftana and the Red Cubs' Penny Estacio in claiming the trophy.
“Hindi ko alam ito e. Sakto nandito yung brother ko sa three-point shootout so I joined,” he said, who only got to the venue to support his brother Ry dela Rosa of JRU.
Oftana drained the game-clinching halfcourt bucket to finish in 23.0 seconds, besting the Mapua side, bannered by Yong Garcia, Exe Biteng and Clint Escamis, which clocked 41.8 seconds in the championship round.
“I'm just thankful to be able to experience this. Yung time ko, wala pang All-Star e. Masaya ako na nanalo kami,” said the four-time NCAA champion, who got a Red Lions shirt and shorts thanks to Javee Mocon.
“This is Javee's extra shirt so I guess, it's mine now.”
Also participating in the event was defending champion Perpetual Help.
