SAN Beda bucked a sluggish start to claim its eighth straight win in the NCAA Season 93, beating College of St. Benilde 72-58 in a game marred by a late scuffle on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

A slow start saw the Red Lions trail the Blazers but the defending champions were quick to recover and quash any thoughts of a CSB upset.

Everything started on defense for them, with the Red Lions limiting the Blazers to just 23 points in the next two quarters while letting Robert Bolick and Davon Potts take care of the offense.

San Beda erected a 22-point lead near the end of the third quarter, 63-41, and the Blazers never recovered.

However, things got ugly with 2:28 left in the game, with Carlo Young taking down a driving Bolick by the neck.

Bolick and responded aggressively, appearing to hit Young while trying to break free.

Officials were quick to extinguish the tension.

Young was quickly ejected, but the altercation proved costlier for San Beda as Bolick was also ejected for his reaction alongside Clint Doliguez who entered the floor in the altercation.

If not overturned, Bolick would be ineligible of any individual award this season, while both players will be suspended for their game against Mapua on Friday.

"It's unethical! They were already down 14 points, it was a fastbreak. Why endanger the guy and punish him after?" said a fuming Red Lions coach Boyet Fernandez as he blasted the game’s officiating.

"If they want us to lose and then let us lose in the proper way. Ang sama e," he added.

Potts had a season high 12 points while Mocon added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Lions who improved to 9-1 for the season.

Clement Leutcheu finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds for the now 2-8 Blazers.
