SAN Beda continued its solid run in the NCAA Season 94, making it eight straight wins with a 77-55 rout of College of St. Benilde on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions tied the Lyceum Pirates at the top of the standings at 14-1, securing at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals.
Showing no signs of let-up, the Red Lions jumped to a 13-2 lead en route to a breezy wire-to-wire victory against the slumping Blazers, with Robert Bolick making the necessary baskets to fend off every Benilde rally.
“We had doubts entering this game because Benilde has their backs against the wall. They need this to keep close to the Final Four,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
“But we need this win as well to solidify our spot in the top two. I think we have secured a playoff berth for the twice-to-beat. We still have to prepare for our games,” he added.
Bolick finished with 19 points and four assists while JV Mocon and Donald Tankoua had 13 points apiece. Calvin Oftana finished with 10 points off the bench.
St. Benilde have lost four of its six games and dropped to 8-7. Clement Leutcheu was the only Benilde player in double digits with 12 points.
