SAN Beda extended its winning run in the NCAA Season 93 to 13 games after edging University of Perpetual Help in a defensive struggle, 55-50, on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

With the result, the Red Lions continued inflicting misery on the Altas as it formally gave the squad from Las Pinas the axe in the tournament.

The win allowed the Red Lions to stay within striking distance of league leading Lyceum as they improved to 14-1 as the Altas fell to 4-10.

The defending champions hacked out the victory through its impenetrable defense late, with Robert Bolick and Franz Abuda coming up with key stops in the final minute.

Leading by just six, Abuda had a hand in stopping Gab Dagangon's three pointer with less than 50 seconds left before Bolick sealed the win with a big block in Perpetual's final play to take the fight out of the Altas.

Despite the win, coach Boyet Fernandez was far from happy with how his boys performed, particularly on offense.

"We're happy we got this win but we got to go back and think about our priorities. We only had 11 assists, that's too low for a San Beda basketball team," said Fernandez.

"Our defense stepped up but our offense is questionable. We have to go back and review everything. I give credit to my players but I will not take away this game also from Perpetual. They really played good, they are a good defensive team," he added.

Bolick paced the Red Lions with 15 points while Donald Tankoua continued his road to recovery with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Lions made just 17 of their 65 attempts for 26 percent.

Good thing their defense more than made up for it as no Perpetual player breached double digits with AJ Coronel, Keith Pido and Gab Dagangon leading the Altas with nine apiece.
