SAN Beda booked its 12th straight finals appearance after putting an end to San Sebastian's improbable run in the NCAA Season 93 with a 76-71 victory on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Red Lions forged a title showdown with the unbeaten Lyceum Pirates, with the best-of-three series starting on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With nearly three weeks of rest, the Red Lions definitely looked fresher, erecting an 18 point lead early in the second quarter.
The Stags managed to make a game out of it, slowly trimming the lead behind Jayson David and Michael Calisaan leading the fightback.
However, the closest they got was five with JV Mocon and Robert Bolick putting the finishing touches to put the Stags away for good.
"Give credit to the players of Baste, they really played well today but in the end only one team will come out as winners. We're happy we won this game," said San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez.
"19 days off, it's really tough. But if I give credit to Baste, I will give full credit to my players. They sacrificed a lot in preparation for this game," he added.
Mocon rose above the physicality and finished with 23 points, 22 rebounds and five blocks, while Bolick added 21 points, four rebounds and four assists.
The Red Lions enjoyed a huge advantage from the free throw line, getting 36 attempts and making 25. Mocon made 13 of 18 shots from the stripe.
San Sebastian, in contrast, had just six attempts as a team and made three.
David led the Stags with 16 points and seven rebounds, Ryan Costelo chipped in 15 as Calisaan struggled heavily with just 10 points on 5 of 16 shooting.
