SAN Beda star Robert Bolick channeled his inner ‘beast mode’ in Game One of the best-of-three Finals series against Lyceum after his girlfriend Aby Maraño gave him an honest piece of advice.

Coming from a sub par peformance in their last match against the Pirates, Bolick bailed out the Red Lions as he scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, including nine straight to secure the win, 94-87, on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Maraño, who’s known for her boundless energy and spunk on the volleyball ball court, was the first to tell Bolick what he lacked and what he needed to do.

Both being athletes, Bolick doesn’t mind Maraño giving him a mouthful especially after a bad game.

“‘Yun ang beauty ng athlete to athlete (ang mag-boyfriend/girlfriend) kasi naiintindihan namin kung ano ang kailangan naming gawin, kahit siya sinasabihan ko siya, we’re open to kung ano man ang kailangan naming gawin,” he said.

When Bolick was already running out of gas late in the game, Maraño’s beast mode attitude rubbed off on him.

The supportive girlfriend was screaming on top of her lungs cheering him on while showing a heart sign using her hand.

“Motivated ako manood kapag nandyan siya. Kapag ang girlfriend mo beast mode sa paglalaro, you have to double it and kailangan mo ng motivation maglaro,” he said.

“Her heart to play sa volleyball, maiinspire ka talaga,” he added.

Maraño, however, also understands if Bolick needs some down and quiet time.

As an athlete, she knows when to talk and when to just let him be.
