SAN Sebastian was relentless from start to finish as it blew out Mapua 86-64 in a battle of also-rans in the NCAA Season 94 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
RK Ilagan returned to his deadly form as he led the Stags into the breezy win for a 5-12 record for the season.
A huge second quarter from the Stags allowed them to break away from the inconsistent Cardinals side, as they opened a 15 point spread by halftime.
"One factor is our three-points. It's RK's day. Alam naman natin na pag araw niya uulan ng tres. The whole team also played good defense," said San Sebatian coach Egay Macaraya.
"Every game yun naman yung lagi ko sinasabi sa mga bata na every game counts. I want everybody to be better," he added.
Ilagan got a tongue-lashing from Macaraya in the second quarter after going solo in one play, and he responded with a career best 26 points on 6-10 shooting from threes.
"It happens all the time. Kahit sinong player, kung frustrated ka with them, you have to call them out," said Macaraya.
"They understand that I'm like a father-figure to them."
Michael Calisaan finished with 16 points in his penultimate NCAA game.
Warren Bonifacio led the 5-12 Cardinals with 14 points and 15 boards.
