RK Ilagan believes every game this year will be a chance to redeem himself after his gaffe last season.
"Sa akin, sobrang importante na makabawi ako every game, as in every game," he said, still apologetic of the ligang labas controversy he found himself embroiled with that all but derailed San Sebastian's run in Season 94.
"Alam naman natin yung nangyari last year. Gusto kong bumawi sa tiwala na binibigay sa akin ni coach Egay at ng buong San Sebastian community."
The sweet-shooting gunslinger went ablaze for San Sebastian, torching Jose Rizal University with five treys on his way to 25 points as he led the Golden Stags to a dominant 82-51 win to start the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament right.
"RK is special. Tumitira na ng halfcourt, pumapasok pa rin," he said in awe as Ilagan went 5-of 9 from downtown, to go with five assists, three rebounds and two steals in the blowout.
The 5-foot-11 Ilagan is glad the Golden Stags were able to live up to the heightened expectations in the first game, but knows that tougher matches await.
"Sobrang importante na makuha namin kaagad yung kumpyansa namin sa unang laro pa lang. Unang game pa lang ito pero alam naman na mas matindi pa yung mga makakalaban namin," said the Tondo-born gunner, who is also vested with the captain's role this year.
"May dagdag pressure talaga, pero habang tumatagal, mas nasasanay na rin ako kasi yun naman talaga ang trabaho ng totoong point guard eh, yung maging leader ng team."
