ROBERT Bolick may have moved on to his pro career, but San Beda's future is secure with its point guard of the future Evan Nelle.

The first-year court general gave everyone a glimpse of what the future holds for the Red Lions with him steering the ship, pouring in 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a 49-43 victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the 2018 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) President's Cup on Monday.

San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez couldn't help but gush over the way Nelle is living up to expectations so early in his career.

"He's been asserting himself as a point guard right now," he said.

Though Fernandez is well aware of what the Red Lions lost with the graduation of Bolick and Javee Mocon, he's quite satisfied knowing that the foundational pieces for San Beda's campaign in the seasons to come are already in place.

"Mabigat talaga yung nawala sa amin since Robert and Javee averaged a combined 20-plus points, close to 15 rebounds, plus yung assists na 10. But with the guys we have, I'm happy with what we have," he said.

"Si Evan, I'm happy with the way he has been evolving his game. Ever since we got Evan, we already told him that Season 95 will be your year and this will be your team," said the multi-titled coach.

"You have to prove to the veterans that you can carry this team because you are the main point guard. And with the way he played today, he made a statement."

Nelle shared that he has prepared himself for this moment and he's elated to be able to perform when his number was called.

"Wala na sila eh, kaya kailangan naming mag-step up. Sa akin naman, no pressure. I like stepping up naman and we prepared for this moment. Credit to coach Boyet at sa teammates ko. We really wanted to win," he said.

As positive as Nelle's showing was, the youthful playmaker knows the Red Lions' fate doesn't rest in one man alone.

"Teamwork kami. Hindi na siya parang Javee and Robert lang, but rather it's a group of guys na talaga. We have to help each other, lift each other, and complement each other para makuha namin yung four-peat," he said.
