AS Lyceum tries to take advantage of its blistering speed and pace this NCAA Season 95, their veteran guard in Reymar Caduyac is certainly a welcome change of pace.
Caduyac finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists for Lyceum as the Pirates took a pulsating 84-80 win over the Letran Knights in the opener of the NCAA Season 95 last Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
But instead of joining the running party of the Pirates, Caduyac opts to play in a more moderate pace - contrary to the style of their spitfire guards in JV and JC Marcelino who would push the tempo in every chance they get.
And that’s just fine for coach Topex Robinson.
“Caduyac is really a gem of a find for us. He just keeps everything composed for us. Kung lahat 150 ang speed sa kanya nasa 100 siya so siya yung taga pigil sa lahat,” said Topex Robinson.
Caduyac did not only get praises from his own coach - he also received great remarks from opposing coach Bonnie Tan.
Coincidentally, it was Tan, who spent 11 years as a Lyceum head coach, who recruited Caduyac straight out of University of the East where he played in high school.
“Masaya ako kay Reymar sa improvements. Honestly, when we got Caduyac before, yung utak niya for a rookie, pag pasok niya out of high school, pang line-up na e,” said Tan.
“Lumalabas naman ngayon na. Ganda ng program ng Lyceum na nabibigyan siya ng break.”
Caduyac said that he’s just merely making the most of the opportunities that swing his way with the Pirates.
He knows that he’s not that fast compared to his contemporaries, but he vows to help out the only way he can.
“Yung sa part na yun, credit yun sa mga kasama ko. Sinusuportahan ko sila at sinusuportahan nila ako. Kumbaga, kung gaano sila kabilis, ganun din ako kabagal,” said Caduyac. “Tanggap naman nila kung gaano ako kabilis.”
Caduyac wanted to do everything for the Pirates that he even offered to guard Letran big man Larry Muyang during stretches where they needed a big man.
For Robinson, Caduyac may shy away from their ‘actual identity’ but he’s the breeze of fresh air that this team needs.
“He’s even offered to guard (Larry) Muyang so sabi ko tutal sa weight naman magkasing size kayo (sige),” Robinson said in jest.
“Kidding aside, he’s just an epitome of what this team is about. What we don’t have is the height. What we do have is the strength and the guys playing together and playing as one.”
