REY Nambatac fired a season-high 31 points as Letran broke the losing spell of home teams in the 'NCAA on Tour' after beating College of Saint Benilde, 92-78, on Thursday at the Letran gym.
Nambatac lit up in front of their home fans to lead the Knights to their second straight win and a 3-3 win-loss slate in Season 93 of the league.
Nambatac's play in the fourth allowed Letran to get the cushion in what was a tight contest that had the Blazers in contention to atone for their 43-point loss to Lyceum on Tuesday.
Thursday's win by Letran was the first for a home team in three games after Arellano and Mapua lost in two of their previous outings on their own turf.
Nambatac actually had a double-double as he grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory.
Bong Quinto also gave the Knights ample support as he had 14 points and seven assists, while Daryl Pascual contributed 12 markers and five boards in the victory.
Letran coach Jeff Napa admitted the Knights started slow and saw them trail, 21-14, after the first period. But he was glad to see his wards bounce back with a total team effort to get the win.
"Alam ko naman 'yung Benilde, hindi bibigay. Hindi basta basta susuko," said Napa. "Siguro, sa simula lang, gusto magpasikat ng mga bata kasi home crowd. Pero nung bumalik kami sa drawing board, nag-regroup 'yung mga bata. Doon namin nakuha 'yung rhythm namin."
"It's a collective effort kaya namin nakuha 'yung panalo," Napa said.
Unique Naboa had 17 points, while Clement Leutcheu had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers, who dropped to 1-4.
St. Benilde led, 64-60, late in the third period but Letran was able to tie the contest at 66 entering the fourth canto.
But Nambatac spearheaded the Knights' attack at the start of the fourth period when they opened with an 11-0 blast capped by one of his two triples in the quarter to post a 77-66 advantage.
