PERPETUAL Help's magical run in the NCAA Season 94 may have ended but star center Prince Eze isn’t about to go home empty handed.
With averages of 18.2 points, 16.5 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks, the 6-foot-10 big man out of Nigeria could be on his way to beating CJ Perez for this season’s Most Valuable Player award.
Perez finished with averages of 18.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, four assists, 3.3 steals but Altas head coach Frankie Lim said that it should be a no-brainer that Eze should win.
“MVP na! In the bag na! Pag hindi nag-MVP ito, nagkaroon ng anomaly,” said Lim.
The four-time NCAA champion coach certainly knows all about it as Eze is already his third foreign student-athlete to dominate and win the MVP after Sam Ekwe and Sudan Daniel.
Lim believes that when you have guys as big as Eze, there’s nothing else you can do but to maximize them every time they’re in the court.
“We just have to maximize him. He’s with us and kailangan gamitin mo eh. We have a 6-10 guy na can help you in rebounds and blocking shots, scoring,” Lim explained.
“You got somebody in the middle to protect you. You just have to maximize.”
For Lim, he predicted this long ago when he first came into Perpetual.
He promised Eze big minutes in exchange for his commitment to the system – and that worked out pretty well for them.
“Tama yung sabi niya. When I arrived, siya ang una kong kinausap eh. Sabi ko I need your commitment here. You should be here and I'm gonna give you the minutes. With the minutes I'm gonna give you, youll end up being the MVP,” said Lim.
“Kaya again, pag ito hindi naging MVP, parang nanalo yung pato sa sabungan. Ganoon ang mangyayari.”
