LETRAN player Jerrick Balanza is set to miss the remainder of the NCAA Season 94 to undergo after a tumor was found in the temporal lobe of his brain, the school said on Wednesday.
The Letran community, through athletic director and NCAA management committee member Fr. Vic Calvo, is asking for assistance for Balanza's operation, which is estimated to cost aboutP500,000.
Sources bared Balanza has been dealing with the issue since he was a child.
"Bata pa lang, nag-start na hirap siya sa pandinig niya," the source said. "Tapos na-impeksyon hanggang sa unti-unti na nawala ang pandinig niya. Na-discover na lang namin na sarado na pala kaya pina-check up namin siya. Doon namin na-diskubre na umakyat na nga sa brain."
Balanza has been averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 25.5 minutes as he started every game in the first round for the Knights. He was set to see action in the NCAA All-Star Game, but opted to shut him down for the year after the diagnosis.
The Knights have asked for the activation of reserve player Jap Pambid for their campaign in the remainder of the seniors' basketball tournament.
