PERPETUAL Help banked on a huge defensive stand in the second quarter as it ended its three-game slump in the NCAA Season 94 with a 57-45 win over Arellano University on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
The Altas limited the Chiefs to just four points in the second quarter as they zoomed to a 33-14 lead at the half and never looked back.
That lead would zoom to as many as 27 points in the third quarter, 44-17, before the Chiefs had a late rally that ultimately fell short.
The win was a much-needed shot in the arm of the Altas as they moved half a game behind St. Benilde (7-5) for the fourth spot with a 6-5 record, as Edgar Charcos made his return after missing two games with an injury.
“Charcos really plays a big part in our system. Malaking bagay yun e. We took care of a big lead,” said head coach Frankie Lim.
“We made good stops in the second quarter, and we were able to run and convert those,” he added.
Prince Eze finished with a game-high 20 points, 19 rebounds, and four blocks as Charcos had a fairly decent return with six points, four assists, and four steals.
Despite the relatively low numbers for the high-scoring guard, Eze said that they are already a better team by simply having Charcos on the floor.
“He knows where to find me just by our eye contact. Even today, he made good passes,” said Eze.
Michael Canete led the Chiefs with 15 points and 13 rebounds as they dropped to 4-7. As a team, Arellano shot a horrific 18-percent clip after making just 13 of their 72 attempts.
