Perpetual questions decision to penalize Altas twice with technical foul, forfeiture in jersey blunder

    Jul 17, 2017

PERPETUAL Help president and chief executive officer Antonio Tamayo insisted the NCAA Management Committee should not decide on on-the-court matters after the Altas were forfeited of its game against College of Saint Benilde during its Season 93 opener on Tuesday.

Tamayo said the NCAA was wrong when the Mancom decided to forfeit the Altas' win against CSB especially after basketball commissioner Arturo 'Bai' Cristobal allowed the game to continue after the team wore the wrong jersey when they wore their dark uniform instead of the white.

Initially, the penalty for the Altas was a technical foul but their match was later put under protest by the Blazers, and the NCAA Mancom forfeiting the match.

"They were wrong to allow our team to play and penalize us twice by slapping a technical foul and gave the other team a free throw before the game started and then forfeit it later," said Tamayo in a statement.

As a result of the forfeiture, the Altas also protested the Mancom's decision. An emergency meeting is being held as of posting time to decide on the Altas' counterprotest.

"The league should empower commissioner Bai Cristobal and let them decide anything related to basketball matters. I believe they should not forfeit the game under the process undertaken by the commissioner," Tamayo also said.

Tamayo also added the Altas should have been sanctioned with a default instead of pushing through with the game.
