GELO Gelsano and JM Tulabut brought on body blows to start before Mark Gojo Cruz and LA Casinillo delivered the knockout blow for Perpetual in their 83-72 triumph over debuting Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA Season 102 men's basketball tournament, Thursday at the Playtime Filoil Centre.
Gelsano and Tulabut made their presence felt in the first half against the undersized Generals, who were nonetheless kept in the game by red-hot EJ Castillo.
Come the final frame, however, Gojo Cruz and Casinillo took over, accounting for much of their points en route to a bounce back win following a season-opening loss to Letran last Sunday.
“Gusto ko lang talaga makabawi sa teammates ko dahil dun sa nangyari sa'min nung first game,” Gojo Cruz said after dropping 15 points on top of six assists, and four rebounds.
Gelsano led the Altas in scoring with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Casinillo followed suit with 16 to his name, while Tulabut and Rey Maglupay scored 15 and 11, respectively.
EJ Castillo finished with 19 markers and five boards in EAC’s campaign-opening loss. Harvae Raymundo scattered 17 points in the defeat.
