PERPETUAL Help confirmed that Frankie Lim is no longer attached to its team, although his status with the university remains “on leave," according to athletic director Sammy Acaylar.
"Actually, hindi na, kasi yun yung decision ng management kaya di na siya attached sa team namin. Pero officially on leave pa lang siya," he said.
Lim, a four-time NCAA champion, was placed on leave by the Perpetual executive committee on Saturday after the Altas' subpar performance to start the NCAA Season 95.
Perpetual stumbled to a 2-5 win-loss card, with the most devastating being a 46-point humiliation, 102-56, at the hands of San Beda last Friday.
"Coach Frankie is very good coach. Pero wala naman kaming magawa kasi siyempre, susunod lang kami sa taas na management namin," he said.
Acaylar did share that talks of Lim's endangered status floated after that loss against the Red Lions, although the top management refused to bare the reason for his removal.
"Wala naman silang sinasabing reason behind. Ang nasa management lang yung nakakaalam ng reason. Basta kami, umattend lang kami ng meeting at yun ang naging decision nila," he said.
That may very well end Lim's run with Perpetual as he amassed a 13-13 win-loss run in his one-and-a-half season for the Altas, reaching the Final Four last year behind NCAA MVP Prince Eze.
Myk Saguiguit has been installed as the interim head coach for the seniors team, with Jonas Kintanar taking his place in the juniors squad.
