Racela on Friday confirmed he already agreed in principle to handle the Altas come the Centennial Season of the NCAA in his return to collegiate coaching after parting ways with Far Eastern University last season.
“I have agreed in principle and we’re just finalizing terms of the deal,” he said in a text message.
The former PBA great and now Barangay Ginebra deputy however, denied any knowledge about SMC coming in as the school’s major backer once his coaching term begins.
“As far as I know, there’s no truth to the news about SMC’s support to the Perpetual basketball program,” said Racela.
“What I can confirm is that there have been talks between myself and Perpetual management regarding the head coaching job of their men’s basketball team.”

Racela added he isn't aware of any SMC support to Perpetual Help since there was none at all.
“No involvement ang SMC. Boss Al (Chua) can confirm it,” he said, referring to SMC Sports Director and Barangay Ginebra governor Alfrancis Chua.
The San Miguel official also denied the giant conglomerate group will be the Altas' major backer for the next collegiate season, stressing SMC only supports the basketball program of his alma mater University of Santo Tomas.
