Escueta said Black will primarily be handling San Beda’s bigs.
“He is in charge of our bigs and our rebounding. But system-wise, lahat naman ng advice niya, nakikinig ako,” said Escueta.
Although he has been a PBA coach for decades including winning the 1989 grand slam, Black is also a UAAP champion for five consecutive seasons with Ateneo.
Black will hold the San Beda position concurrently with the same post at Meralco after Luigi Trillo took over as head coach and Nenad Vucinic came in aw active consultant last May.

Black remains very much a part of Meralco's staff based on his presence in the PBA Draft Combine and the PBA Draft.
He has also made his presence felt at San Beda.
“Of course, malaki [contributions] with his experience sa college level. Tsaka coach ko ‘yan eh,” said Escueta, referring to his time as a player with Ateneo.
San Beda hasn’t won an NCAA title since 2018, which was followed by Letran’s dominance for three straight seasons.
