    CJ Perez, Kent Salado lead top standouts in NCAA Season 93 opening week

    THE NCAA Season 93 finally opened last week, and this early, there were notable individual performances in Week One of the men's basketball tournament.

    SPIN.ph recaps the first week of the league with the top performers in the first few games of the competition.


    Mapua is playing Season 93 without two-time MVP Allwell Oraeme but the Cardinals are off to a good start with a 1-1 win-loss record. That lone victory was thanks to the heroics of Estrella, who knocked in the game-winning triple to beat Letran, 78-75. The veteran guard finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists against the Knights.

    Arellano played its first game without Jio Jalalon, and Salado proved he is capable of being the top dog of the Chiefs. Salado finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in Arellano's 91-82 win over Mapua.

    The Heavy Bombers picked up their first win on Friday thanks to Teodoro, who finished with 26 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in their 68-54 win over Perpetual Help. Teodoro bounced back from a 13-point performance in JRU's lopsided loss to LPU in their season opener.


    The Cameroonian standout is one of the reasons why the Generals are being picked as a darkhorse for Season 93. Laminou came up huge against College of Saint Benilde in Friday's season opener, finishing with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocks in his first game back from an MCL injury.

    The Pirates showed their preseason tag as a title contender is legitimate after going 2-0 this week. Leading the Pirates' attack is Perez, who is averaging 21 points per game in the two games. In his first game back in the NCAA, Perez finished with a double-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals against Jose Rizal University. Against San Beda, Perez sizzled with 24 points as LPU stunned the Red Lions in what experts say is a preview of this year's finals.
