THE NCAA unveiled its theme and logo for its historic 100th season – “Siglo Uno: Inspiring Legacies,” with the opening ceremony set this September 7, Saturday, inside Mall of Asia Arena.
Lyceum of the Philippines University will be tasked to host the NCAA’s centennial run, the first time the Pirates will be handling hosting duties after joining the league in 2009, and becoming an official member by 2015.
NCAA Season 100 Management Committee Chairman Hercules Callanta of Lyceum shared his excitement for the upcoming historic season.
“This season of the NCAA is truly a historic and remarkable one as we celebrate the centennial year of the country’s first athletic league. This year, we are focusing on inspiring legacies as we have come to achieve a century full of growth and development,” he said.
“The NCAA has completed 99 seasons, and as we begin a new chapter, we are staying strong and adaptable, still evolving onward to the next century,”
The league also announced that it will be unveiling the “10 Greatest NCAA Players,” though it’s still unclear as to how they’ll cut down the list to 10 with the parameters still murky.
They also plan to unveil a 100 greatest list sometime down the line which will include players from former NCAA members such as Ateneo, La Salle and PCU among others.
After the opening festivities, defending champion San Beda will start its repeat campaign against host Lyceum, before fellow contenders Mapua and College of St. Benilde tangle in the second game of the exciting opener.
