THE 16th edition of the NCAA South kicked off at the University of Perpetual Help in Binan, Laguna Friday, with the host school seeking to extend its reign in men’s basketball for the fifth straight time and La Salle Lipa looking to retain its overall crown in the juniors division.
Theme for this year’s celebration is `Shout and Cheer For Unity,’ with actor/sportsman Richard Gomez serving as guest of honor during the opening ceremony.
La Salle VP for Internal Affairs Dr. Fe Rabanal anticipates a high level of competition from participating athletes from the 10 member schools.
"We expect a high level of performance from the athletes," she said. "The other schools will put up a challenge on how far each school will go for the game."
Aside from basketball and volleyball, other first semester events include chess and taekwondo.
Football, swimming, lawn tennis, table tennis, beach volleyball, and badminton will be held in the second semester.
Other member schools aside from UPH and La Salle Lipa are Letran Calamba, Don Bonsco, Emilio Aguinaldo College Cavite, First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities, Philippine Christian University Dasmarinas, Cavite, Saint Francis of Assisi College of Las Pinas, San Beda College Alabang, and San Pablo Colleges.
