JOSE Rizal University completed the day of upsets in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament by downing Emilio Aguinaldo College, 75-63, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.

The Heavy Bombers held the Generals to just two points in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter to finally pull away in a game that was tightly-fought for three quarters.

Joshua Guiab, rookie Robin Bernardo, and Shawn Argente made possible an 11-2 run by JRU in the final period that stretched a slim 50-49 edge to 61-51 with 4:25 left in the game.

The Heavy Bombers, who were without Jonathan Medina and Patrick Ramos, improved to 3-5 overall and replicated the earlier victory of Arellano University, which stunned league leader College of St. Benilde, 73-71.

“Sa mga past games kasi namin, lagi kaming may isang quarter na ibinibigay. So the players were locked in pagdating ng fourth quarter na hindi kami basta bibigay,” said Jose Rizal coach Louie Gonzales.

Guiab had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, Bernardo with 13, and Argente with 12, for the Heavy Bombers, who are coming off an 88-81 loss against the Mapua Cardinals last week.

It was a sorry loss for the Generals, who fell to a 3-5 record and failed to come up with a follow up to their thrilling 90-88 win over hosts Lyceum Pirates.

Veteran King Gurtiza finished with 15 points for EAC, but he was held to just five in the second half, while Paolo Bagay was the only other player in double figures with 12.
