THE NCAA remained firm on their decision to forfeit San Sebastian’s two wins in the first round following RK Ilagan’s participation in an unauthorized league while the season is ongoing.
Ilagan played the Stags’ first five games and won two in that stretch, meaning that their wins over Jose Rizal University and College of St. Benilde will now be forfeited.
With the decision, the Stags now finish the elimination round at the bottom of the standings with a 1-8 record.
The Blazers will improve to 4-3 while the forfeiture will give the Heavy Bombers their first win of the season to improve to 1-6.
San Sebastian head coach Egay Macaraya is already at peace with the decision, saying that they have no other choice but to move forward.
“On the second round 1-8 na kami, wala tayong magagawa,” said Macaraya after their 65-54 loss to San Beda last Thursday.
“Ang focus lang ng San Sebastian ngayon is to win more games. Hopefully ma-motivate nito ang mga bata na atleast matuto na manalo,” he added.
It’s now up to the San Sebastian management if Ilagan will be suiting up at the start of the second round.
Letran, the other team with a player involved in the ‘ligang labas’ issue, will escape sanctions as Koy Galvelo didn’t play a single minute while the investigation was ongoing.
