SAN Sebastian showed one last glimpse of the contender squad that it should have been, venting its ire on Arellano to close out its NCAA Season 94 seniors' basketball tournament campaign with an emphatic 91-63 rout on Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Golden Stags resembled a team that could fare with the best the league has to offer, exploding for 35 points in the second quarter to take a 49-30 halftime lead and riding that wave of momentum to put the game away in the second half.
It was an all-out domination for San Sebastian, which finished with a 6-12 record while giving senior forward Michael Calisaan a fitting send-off.
Calisaan pumped 24 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block in the final game of his collegiate career.
"Surely, we will miss Michael. Yung leadership niya sa team, it's something na mamimiss ng team," said coach Egay Macaraya of his lead forward.
RK Ilagan added 13 points, six boards and five dimes, while Allyn Bulanadi also dropped a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds to end what has been a roller-coaster campaign for the Golden Stags.
"Before itong season na ito, wala pa yung exodus, sinasabi ko kay Michael na ito ang ticket niya maging PBA player. But nangyari na nga lahat ng distraction at nagka-problema kami. There was a problem din with RK na di namin inasahan," he said.
"But even then, naka-build pa rin kami ng character and unity as a team. Even with those forfeited wins, malaki pa rin sana ang chance namin makapasok sa Final Four. But sadly, kinulang talaga kami."
Rence Alcoriza led the Chiefs with 17 points and seven rebounds, as graduating forward Michael Canete got 10 and nine in the losing cause.
Arellano bowed out of the tournament with its 5-13 card.
