MAPUA survived a late rally from Jose Rizal University to pull off the 83-63 win Friday in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Laurenz Victoria paced the Cardinals with 24 points on a 5-of-9 clip from downtown, to go with four rebounds as they chalked up their third straight victory to move up to 3-5.
"I'm happy and satisfied with the three straight wins. Tinrabaho ng players ko yun, tinrabaho ng buong team and credit sa coaching staff dahil talagang after ng 0-5 start namin, binusisi namin kung saan kami nagkamali at nagawan namin ng paraan at nag-respond ang players," said coach Randy Alcantara.
Rookie Paolo Hernandez had a career-best 20 points, five boards, three assists, and two steals in the outing.
The frontcourt also had its share with Christian Bunag tallying 10 points, eight rebounds, and one block, as Warren Bonifacio had eight points and 10 boards in the victory.
